Texas takes vital step toward setting the gold standard in bereavement care.

Thank you to Representative Mihaela E. Plesa, the clinicians, advocates, and grieving families who have worked tirelessly to champion House Bill 37, a vital piece of legislation that expands support for families navigating the unimaginable loss of a baby.

As Mihaela shared:
“This bill expands bereavement care for mothers and families who are experiencing one of the most devastating moments of their lives, the loss of an infant or stillbirth.”

HB 37 creates a grant program that helps hospitals with a maternal level of care designation provide the palliative care, training, and resources that families need and deserve. This is about more than funding—it’s about dignity, compassion, and ensuring no family has to grieve alone.

Also passed: HB 2057, officially recognizing October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in Texas. This is a day to pause, remember, and honour the babies who are loved and missed, and the families who carry their memory forward.

As Representative Plesa rightly stated:
“Behind each of these numbers is a family shattered by loss… These bills are just one step toward improving the quality of care for those who have struggled with one of the most traumatic experiences they will ever face—the loss of a child.”

We’re encouraged to see progress like this and committed to supporting the hospitals, bereavement teams, and families who are leading the way toward compassionate care.

At CuddleCot, we were honoured to provide information on the role of cooling support in helping families spend precious time with their baby. We’re incredibly proud of the community of bereaved parents who shared their stories, both in person and through written testimony to create change in Texas.

‘While You Were Apart’ Words from those who cared for your baby

There are some questions that bereaved parents carry quietly for years.

Bringing Thea home was so important to us.

We were recently contacted by Katie, mum to Seb and Thea-Dottie who wanted to share the importance of the CuddleCot to their family and how it enabled them to take precious Thea-Dottie home where she belonged. Not every family is given this opportunity, sometimes due to another family using a device and lack of availability, or simply a and heartbreakingly a lack of awareness.

No family should experience what we did

Ezra’s mum, Lianne shares their journey with grief, their bereavement care experiences, and why they are dedicated to advocating for better standards of compassionate bereavement care for families.

Is there any guidance on temperature and how long babies can be kept after loss, does the guidance change with baby weight?
