Peterborough City Hospital receives CuddleBlanket for grieving parents

Peterborough City Hospital has received new equipment to help parents who lose babies in the hospital.

The hospital has received a CuddleBlanket, a specially designed insulated blanket and cooling pad that keeps a baby or child who has died cool so the parents can have more time to be with them.

4Louis, a charity that works across the country to support those affected by babies or children passing in the hospital, made the donation.

The CuddleBlanket is specially designed with an insulated cover with a liquid cooling system that circulates fluid through a large cooling pad.

Paediatric deputy sister, Lauren Frow, said: “We are humbled and grateful to Bob McGurrell, CEO of 4Louis, who recently came to PCH and delivered training and very kindly donated the CuddleBlanket.

“The CuddleBlanket has been created for use with older children, allowing families to spend special time with their child without the need to visit a mortuary or sit in a cold room.

CEO of 4Louis, Bob McGurrell, said: “4Louis is delighted, with the support of BGL Insurance, to be able to donate a much-needed CuddleBlanket to support families through the traumatic time after losing a child.

The CuddleBlanket buys the gift of time and allows families to spend more time with their loved ones.

We are so pleased that BGL Insurance has been able to support us so generously over a number of years, allowing us to put in place support for bereaved families.

Thank you to all at BGL Insurance and of course the team at Peterborough Hospital, who are making a difference.”

Local company BGL Insurance enabled the donation through their Bretton-based HQ.

The business supports 4Louis through their Sunderland office but was able to link to Peterborough City Hospital through their HQ.

A similar donation was made to Peterborough City Hospital’s maternity department earlier this year.

A mother who lost her baby at 20 weeks raised money for a CuddleCot for the department.
