Miles Mission’ Healing Through Love, Loss, and Community
Miles’ Mission was born from a family’s deep grief and unwavering love after the stillbirth of baby Miles Owen Moore on October 11, 2021. What began as s heartbreak has grown into a movement of hope, compassion, and advocacy for families facing pregnancy and infant loss.
Founded by Miles’ famil, including his parents, grandparents, and extended relatives, the mission honors every form of loss, from stillbirth to miscarriage. Together, they have transformed their pain into purpose, supporting bereaved families and helping hospitals across Ohio and beyond strengthen bereavement care practices.
Dr. Michael Bullock, Miles’ grandfather, shared how the mission continues to expand, what the new Miles’ Mission Memorial Park represents, and how their work is shaping the future of compassionate care for families everywhere.

Could you share a little about what it means to see more hospitals adopting the bereavement care standardization?
One of the statements we’ve continued to say at Miles’ Mission is that we wanted to be a part of a movement. Seeing other hospitals and other organizations work towards better bereavement care is a validation of that statement. It means the world to us to be able to see incremental growth that stays steady and continues to grow.
How do you see these changes shaping bereavement care for families in Ohio and beyond?
Anything that is done is only as good as those who implement it. Better care to us is predicated upon better training for those helping families of loss. More compassionate care comes from better-trained staff who can be more compassionate and caring in their language and presence. That is the goal.

What would you say to other hospitals who are thinking about taking part in this initiative? How can they replicate the great work happening?
Most hospitals desire to be relevant and maintain their place with competing hospitals. If they want to keep pace with the changes that are happening, then it is imperative for them to find ways to implement standardized bereavement practices. Literature and practices are already available. Implementing the practices is a matter of effort, desire, and decision-making. Then begin doing the work that needs to be done.

What’s the latest progress at Miles’ Mission Park, and what milestones are you most excited about?
Miles’ Mission Memorial Park has broken ground. We have in place most of the paving stones leading to where the angel of hope statue will rest. We have a wind phone, which is a refurbished newsstand with a rotary phone for loved ones to call their babies. We are currently and will continue to take orders for bricks to be laid next to the pathways with the names of angel babies, their birthdate, and any other wording a family may want to have. Order forms can be found on our website. It is an exciting opportunity to bring people together in our city and allow families from anywhere to have a location other than a cemetery to sit, cry, laugh, reflect, and honor their baby. We want this park to be a place of “hope” that helps in the healing process.

Are there any upcoming milestones, events, or ways people can contribute that we can help share?
Our plan is to have both a dedication of the park and a recognition of the world Children’s Day on December 6th. We are currently waiting for the base of the statue to arrive. The dedication will be with candles, a short speech, recognition of the babies who have already been given bricks, and an opportunity for our community to hear the vision for the rest of the property.
Do you have any upcoming plans or events we can mention?
You can mention our December 6th event.
Follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram for times and order of the event.
