Healthcare Professional consistently goes above and beyond for family

It is incredibly important to us at CuddleCot to recognise those compassionate unsung heroes of healthcare, who lovingly care for families navigating loss or pregnancy after loss every day.

Amongst the frenzy of media coverage about failings in maternity care, those precious stories from families who received compassionate care can be overlooked. We received the story below from a mother who was comforted and reassured by her midwife during a stressful and scary time.

Written by Shakera Rahman, to recognise Becki Crook, Bereavement Midwife at the University Hospitals of Leicester – Maternity Bereavement Team.

I would like to recognise Becki for her outstanding care, kindness, and unwavering compassion during my time as a patient at the Rainbow Clinic.

From the very beginning, Becki consistently went above and beyond to ensure I felt safe, supported, and reassured throughout my pregnancy. After I attended triage due to reduced movements, Becki took the time to see me and kindly arranged an additional scan to provide me with peace of mind. That scan revealed accelerated growth in my baby, and Becki acted promptly by arranging a glucose tolerance test and contacting the diabetes clinic as soon as the results became available.

What truly set Becki apart was not only her clinical expertise and efficiency, but also the genuine care she showed at every interaction. Her responsiveness to messages always put me at ease, and she greeted us with a warm smile and positive attitude every time we saw her.

Following a previous pregnancy loss, this pregnancy was understandably filled with anxiety. Becki’s compassion, reassurance, and dedication made an enormous difference to my maternity journey and helped make a challenging experience so much more positive.

She is a shining example of what exceptional patient-centred care looks like, and I only wish everyone could experience the same level of kindness and support that she provides.

Thank you, Becki. Your care and compassion will stay with me long after this pregnancy, and I will never forget the difference you made.

Keep doing what you are doing Becki, and thank you so much for the care you provided for me. I won’t ever forget you! Shakera xx

Shakera’s story will be added to the submissions for the CuddleCot Compassionate Awards for Baby loss Awareness Week 2026 where we will highlight the incredible with of healthcare professionals like in 2025.

‘While You Were Apart’ Words from those who cared for your baby

There are some questions that bereaved parents carry quietly for years.

Bringing Thea home was so important to us.

We were recently contacted by Katie, mum to Seb and Thea-Dottie who wanted to share the importance of the CuddleCot to their family and how it enabled them to take precious Thea-Dottie home where she belonged. Not every family is given this opportunity, sometimes due to another family using a device and lack of availability, or simply a and heartbreakingly a lack of awareness.

No family should experience what we did

Ezra’s mum, Lianne shares their journey with grief, their bereavement care experiences, and why they are dedicated to advocating for better standards of compassionate bereavement care for families.
