Honouring Kallipateira: A Legacy of Love, Support, and Change

No parent should have to experience the heartbreak of losing a baby, yet for those who do, the pain is immeasurable. The Kallipateira Moorhouse Foundation was created from that very grief, a promise made by parents holding their stillborn daughter, vowing that her life would bring change and support to others walking the same devastating path. Since its founding, the charity has worked tirelessly to support bereaved families, raise awareness of stillbirth and miscarriage, and fund vital research to help prevent future losses. Through their work, Ben and his family ensure that Kallipateira’s name carries on in a way that makes a difference.

The Kallipateira Moorhouse Foundation is a promise we made to our daughter as we held her in our arms.Through our love for Kallipateira we will be her voice.

We will increase the awareness of Stillbirth, support parents who have experienced the death of a baby and support research to help reduce the numbers of babies who die during pregnancy or birth.

  • Can you share the story behind the founding of your charity and what inspired you to create it?

Our daughter Kallipateira Rodothea Moorhouse was born dead ( stillborn) at 37 weeks of pregnancy on October 26th 2018.

Kallipateira was a fully developed beautiful baby girl. We made Kallipateira a promise that we would ensure she did not die for nothing and through our love we would make a difference through her as a gift to others.

As the weeks and months passed ( even now 7 years later) dads especially are treat very different when it comes to stillbirth or the death of a baby. People expect dads to be strong and to just to be ok. Through the lack of support Ben received and how people changed towards me him we knew that we had to do something to be there for others. If we could help one person it is worth doing.In 2019 we also had a miscarriage at 9 weeks that in reality should have never happened.

During the lockdown of May 2020 we welcomed our son Apollon Alexandros Moorhouse into the world. We were looked after by Professor Alexander Heazell and his team in Manchester. If not for these wonderful people and the research they undertake,  Apollon would not be here today.

Finding out that Kallipateira’s death was preventable and learning about how important the work of the Manchester Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre is our charity would also support the team to help save other babies lives. What a wonderful legacy for Kallipateira.

  • What are the core missions and goals of your organisation in supporting bereaved families?

There is no right or wrong way when it comes to grief. Every single person grieves and in their way. Nobody can ever tell them what to do or how they should be feeling.

As a small charity we are there if anybody needs a chat or just someone who will listen. If a mum or dad needs a cup of tea and a hug we are there.

We know too well what it is like to be left to your own devices, feeling alienated from the world.

Through Ben’s experience of how society treats dads after the death of a baby we do also focus on the support for dads.

  • What specific support do you provide for siblings, grandparents, dads, and the extended family who are also affected by the loss?

Anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby can contact us and we will welcome them with a hug.Sometimes it’s not about talking but just listening .We both work full time on top of having the charity so we do our best with supporting others in the form of phone calls , video calls, meetings and WhatsApp Groups.

If parents or family members do need face to face support we also do this when it’s needed.

  • How do you ensure that your support services are accessible and effective for all bereaved parents?

We do have a good online presence and we are supported by people within our community who do recommend us to other parents for support.

Our charity is also involved with Baby Loss Awareness Week and we are a member of the Baby Loss Awareness Alliance.

  • How can individuals and communities get involved in supporting your charity and its mission?

As a small charity it is tough going and we would love for others to support us.

This year Ben will be putting his trainers back on with two extreme challenges within a week in July and we have raffles throughout the year.

In 2025 if people want to support our charity The best way of doing this is to help Ben reach his fundraising target.

It would be absolutely fantastic if other people could also support us with their own fundraising events no matter how big or small. People can even set a weekly or monthly payment to the charity. Every single penny that comes in goes back out for the why.

Through their foundation, the Moorhouse family has created a compassionate space where bereaved parents and families can find the support they need—whether that’s a listening ear, a reassuring hug, or simply the knowledge that they are not alone. Their commitment to honouring Kallipateira extends beyond awareness, offering real, tangible support to those who need it most. With ongoing fundraising challenges, community initiatives, and their involvement in Baby Loss Awareness Week, they continue to be a beacon of hope for families facing unimaginable loss.

If you’d like to support their mission, you can contribute to Ben’s fundraising efforts or learn more about their work at www.kmfoundation.co.uk. Every donation, conversation, and shared story helps break the silence around baby loss and brings comfort to those who need it most.

If people can please support Ben they can do so at

‘While You Were Apart’ Words from those who cared for your baby

There are some questions that bereaved parents carry quietly for years.

Bringing Thea home was so important to us.

We were recently contacted by Katie, mum to Seb and Thea-Dottie who wanted to share the importance of the CuddleCot to their family and how it enabled them to take precious Thea-Dottie home where she belonged. Not every family is given this opportunity, sometimes due to another family using a device and lack of availability, or simply a and heartbreakingly a lack of awareness.

No family should experience what we did

Ezra’s mum, Lianne shares their journey with grief, their bereavement care experiences, and why they are dedicated to advocating for better standards of compassionate bereavement care for families.
