Family honour Grandson who loved helping others

Losing David so suddenly was a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends and community. Yet through this incredibly thoughtful CuddleCot donation, his compassion and dedication to helping others will continue to touch lives for years to come. Every family supported by David’s CuddleCot at Robin House will be given precious extra time together during the most difficult moments imaginable, creating memories that can never be replaced. It is a lasting legacy that reflects exactly who David was: someone who cared deeply for others and always wanted to make a difference.

“Our grandson David Lee Yuill was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was 15 yrs old. Luckily we got 15 years free from it – he grew up a happy child and went on to work in the NHS and did loads of charity volunteering for Red Cross and pride events”… “He worked as a support care worker in Glasgow Royal Infirmary until his illness got so bad that he had to retire from work”… “he was on the lung transplant list at one time – but the NHS then tried him with a new drug which gave him approx 18 months of good life and he eventually went back to work for the NHS as a vaccinator for covid ( which we thought could have been the worst job ever considering his condition ) but he did it for about a year until the cystic fibrosis eventually killed him”…”he just loved helping people and that’s why we wanted to help others with the CuddleCots”…”We usually donate to the Butterfly trust which is a cystic charity but Cathy wanted to do the CuddleCots for the CHAS charity”

David Yuill, 27, from Glasgow, devoted his life to helping others

David Yuill, 27, from Glasgow, devoted his life to helping others as a health care support worker on the older people’s wards at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and, later, as a COVID vaccinator at clinics across the west of Scotland. David also devoted his free time volunteering as an emergency responder for the British Red Cross and assisting LGBTQ+ communities by helping Pride groups in Glasgow.

David’s mum, Catherine, said: “I am so proud of him, he achieved so much in so little time”

Sadly David died suddenly months before his wedding, but he continues to create a lasting impact on the lives of others through his family’s generosity and determination to honour his memory. David’s CuddleCot will help provide families in the Balloch community with the gift of time after baby loss. Time to spend together as a family, take footprints, allow grandparents to meet baby and make arrangements without feeling rushed.

For many bereaved families, those moments become some of the most treasured memories they will ever hold. Through this donation, David’s kindness will quietly support parents, siblings and grandparents during unimaginable grief, ensuring they are given the care, dignity and precious time they deserve.

Grandparents Robert and Cathy saved for the CuddleCot donation as a tribute to their grandson, sharing that “he would have loved this as he loved helping people”.

Grandparents Robert and Cathy donate CuddleCot to Robin House in memory of David

David’s CuddleCot was donated to Robin House, part of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

The donation is not only a tribute to David’s remarkable life, but a continuation of the compassion he showed every day through his work, volunteering and care for others. His legacy will live on in the quiet moments shared by families at Robin House, where love, connection and memories can be protected during the hardest of times.

Since donating the CuddleCot, David’s family have also seen the wider impact their tribute has had within the local community. More families have come forward to ask how they can become involved in donating CuddleCots themselves, including one family whose precious baby was cared for in a CuddleCot for four days. Experiencing that invaluable time together inspired them to help ensure other families are given the same opportunity to create memories, say hello and goodbye gently, and spend uninterrupted time together.

The family hope David’s legacy will continue to inspire acts of kindness and compassion, helping more bereaved families receive the precious gift of time when they need it most.

‘While You Were Apart’ Words from those who cared for your baby

There are some questions that bereaved parents carry quietly for years.

Bringing Thea home was so important to us.

We were recently contacted by Katie, mum to Seb and Thea-Dottie who wanted to share the importance of the CuddleCot to their family and how it enabled them to take precious Thea-Dottie home where she belonged. Not every family is given this opportunity, sometimes due to another family using a device and lack of availability, or simply a and heartbreakingly a lack of awareness.

No family should experience what we did

Ezra’s mum, Lianne shares their journey with grief, their bereavement care experiences, and why they are dedicated to advocating for better standards of compassionate bereavement care for families.
