👩‍⚕️ The Heart of Bereavement Care: Nurses and Memory Making 👶

Return to Zero: HOPE: Karla Iacampo from Santa Monica, CA

Nurses play an invaluable role in supporting bereaved families, providing not only compassionate care but also creating lasting memories during the most difficult moments.

Return to Zero: HOPE spoke with Karla Iacampo from Santa Monica, CA, who shared her perspective on memory-making for grieving families:

“We have things that we can do to provide memories for that couple, for their baby, because this is going to be the only time they have with them. Some may decline, but we still do it… they’ll never get that time back. I really try to sit with them and say, ‘Don’t be afraid. It’s terrifying, but don’t be afraid. You’re parents; this is your baby. You can spend as much time as you want with your baby.’”

Karla’s words remind us how essential it is to support families in creating cherished memories, even in the face of loss. We honor the dedication of nurses like Karla, who ensure that these moments are filled with love and care.

‘While You Were Apart’ Words from those who cared for your baby

There are some questions that bereaved parents carry quietly for years.

Bringing Thea home was so important to us.

We were recently contacted by Katie, mum to Seb and Thea-Dottie who wanted to share the importance of the CuddleCot to their family and how it enabled them to take precious Thea-Dottie home where she belonged. Not every family is given this opportunity, sometimes due to another family using a device and lack of availability, or simply a and heartbreakingly a lack of awareness.

No family should experience what we did

Ezra’s mum, Lianne shares their journey with grief, their bereavement care experiences, and why they are dedicated to advocating for better standards of compassionate bereavement care for families.
